From 2008 onwards, the Perth Mint issued the Lunar Series II, follow-up of the popular Lunar Series I depicting animals of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
Coins from the Lunar Series are legal tender in Australia and are made of 999.0/1000 pure silver.
In 2014, the seventh animal of the second cycle is celebrated. Hence, the coins feature the Year of the Horse design. The reverse of each coin depicts two horses standing in a Chinese landscape. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Besides proof like coins, there are further series for collectors ranging from proof coins to gilded and coloured editions as well as versions with various privy marks.
All Lunar Series II silver coins are available in sizes of 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 kg, and 10 kg.
Besides, gold coins are available in sizes of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 10 oz, 1 kg, and 10 kg.
