From 2020 onwards, the Perth Mint issues the Lunar Series III, follow-up of the popular Lunar Series II depicting animals of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
The coins of the new series are slightly larger than the preceding ones and take a modern approach regarding their motives.
Coins from the Lunar Series are legal tender in Australia and are made of 999.9/1000 pure gold.
In 2024, the fifth animal of the third cycle is celebrated. Hence, the coins feature the Year of the Dragon design. The reverse of each coin depicts a Chinese dragon surrounded by clouds. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
All gold coins are available in sizes of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, and 10 oz.
Besides, Lunar Series II silver coins are available in sizes of 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, 1 kg, and 10 kg.
